Slack Warns of Big, Bad Dangers in SEC Filing

A filing prior to an IPO lists nation-state dangers to Slack’s services and customers as a risk for investors.

In an SEC filing published today, Slack has warned potential investors that it is a target for attacks from “sophisticated organized crime, nation-state, and nation-state supported actors.”

The details come as part of an S-1 form filed prior to the company’s initial public offering. In a section titled “Risk Factors,” Slack meticulously lists, as all companies going through this process must, all the things that could go wrong and lower the price of its stock. But the 3,469 words that make up the cybersecurity portion of that section read like a compendium of factors that can cause sleepless nights for CISOs.

The sophisticated nation-state threat is listed alongside “normal” cyber risks from garden-variety hackers, criminals, and disgruntled individuals.
